Teresa Barros Pereira Romão harp

Mozart Premiere

Sunday 7th March @ 3pm
St John’s Kirk

Following the discovery of a collection of new pieces by Mozart for Flute and Harp, we are delighted to have the unique opportunity to stage its first performance in Scotland.

Portuguese flautist Frederico Paixão, Principal Flute of the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, Professor of Flute at the Royal Northern College of Music, will be joined by Teresa Barros Pereira Romão da Conceição, also from Portugal. Teresa is a prominent freelance orchestral harpist, as a chamber and solo performer in Portugal and
Scotland and one of the harp lecturers at the Royal
Conservatoire of Scotland.

The concert will feature the premiere of a new work by Mozart alongside classical repertoire spanning different periods of music history.

As companion composers to the newly discovered Mozart pieces, we will hear works by Ravel and Ibert (further linked by their love of Spanish sonorities and folk dances) as well as Poulenc; together they epitomise the Parisian charm and refinement which surrounded Mozart when he was writing these flute & harp compositions for his student Marie-Louise-Philippine de Bonnieres de Guines and her father, Duke of Guines.

The full programme is:

  • Joly Braga Santos – Peça para Flauta
  • M. Ravel – Pièce en forme de Habanera
  • J.Ibert – Entr’Act
  • F. Poulenc – Sonata for Flute and Piano (Arr. Rovinsky)
  • W. A. Mozart – Seven New Pieces for Flute and Harp
